about us

Geospatial Laboratory for Environment Analysis and Decision Making is housed within the Department of Geography at the University of Winnipeg. The laboratory focuses on the applied use of geospatial technologies to examine pressing societal and environmental issues within a collaborative research environment.

Through the use of Geographic Information Systems, Remotely Sensed imagery and field data, faculty, students, and researchers will be able to work within a synergistic environment to examine and better understand problems currently facing society with the underlying goal of goal of science informing decision making. The mandate of the laboratory is to:

  1. Integrate undergraduate students into ongoing research projects and teams.
  2. Connect the laboratory with the classroom to create a hybrid learning environment whereby theory and application are taught simultaneously.
  3. Examine pressing societal and environment issues, including but not limited to urban poverty, urban sprawl, and the sustainable management of wetlands and other water resources.
  4. Apply cutting edge geospatial technologies and datasets to urban and environmental problems.
  5. Ensure that science informs decision making.
